1. A Sitz Bath Hemorrhoids Container

Place a large basin inside the bathtub. You can also use the bathtub itself instead. Alternatively, you can get a plastic sitz bath basin which is easily available from your local pharmacy, especially if you don’t have a bathtub. It is a plastic bowl that can be placed on top of your toilet seat, which has small holes at the top to allow overflowing water to go back into the toilet bowl.

You can conveniently order a sitz bath container online and have it delivered to your house directly instead.

2. Hot Water

Pour in hot water (100 to 120 degrees Fahrenheit, or 37 to 48 degree Celsius) into the basin (or bathtub) to a height of around 2 to 3 inches, and place the basin on your bathtub (or on the toilet bowl if you’re using the plastic sitz bath basin).

3. Hemorrhoids Natural Treatment Herbs

You can add a cup of chamomile (a powerful anti-inflammatory herb) or comfrey tea into the hot water. Include a drop of valerian root tincture to eliminate sphincter spasms. This step is optional, but is recommended.

4. Maintaining Your Body Temperature

This is also another optional step. If you’re going to sit in a basin inside the bathtub, prepare some hotter water inside the tub; this is to help keep your feet warmer than your buttocks. To prevent yourself from getting too warm, get a cold washcloth beside you.

5. Position

Sit on the basin (or bathtub) straight up, preferably with your knees bent to your chest for maximum exposure of your anus, and soak your anus and hemorrhoids inside the water for 20 minutes. Idling for 20 minutes can be a rather boring task, so you might as well bring in your gadget and watch an episode of your favorite show to kill time.

6. Getting Up

Once you are done, get up slowly. Your blood vessels are dilated (opened up) from the hot water, and blood flow will be accelerated in your body. This may cause you to be a little dizzy.

7. Drying

After that, pat-dry your anus gently. Do not rub or apply too much pressure on it. Or you can also use a hair-dryer instead for more convenience. Pour cold water area the bathtub to cool off the area if you were inside the bathtub.

8. Frequency

You are advised to carry out this procedure after defecating, and to perform this entire process around 2 times a day.

9. Alternative

Give yourself a treat once in a while by visiting a hot spring, and soak yourself inside a hot alkaline spring instead. Sulfur springs are another good choice too.

Warm sitz baths are not only good for hemorrhoids; they are also good for anal fissures. It can accelerate the healing of wounds for curing hemorrhoids, and kills off bacteria and pathogens. We actually ran a survey on our site on sitz baths to determine the most popular one used by our hemorrhoid-afflicted readers, and what their favorite ‘additives’ were…

It ended up being the Carex sitz bath, though some buyers said they went the DIY route in the bathtub:

Many people said they liked adding oatmeal to the bath for its soothing properties, and that it did provide some decent hemorrhoid relief. : )
